KARAVELI SOFIA

Born in Kavala in 1984, Sofia Karaveli is a postdoctoral researcher in the field of literary translation at the Department of French Language and Literature of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Professionally, she works in proofreading and book editing, while also teaching French and Greek to foreign students.

She completed her undergraduate studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, first at the Department of Greek Philology (2001–2006), and subsequently at the Department of French Language and Literature (2006–2010) of the same university. In 2010, she obtained her Master’s degree from Université du Maine, Faculty of Arts, Letters and Languages, in the field of Language Didactics (French as a Foreign Language – FLE). Her thesis focused on the teaching of Ancient Greek in secondary education through multilingual and multicultural practices.

In 2019, she completed her doctoral dissertation at Université de Lille in the field of Greek Studies. Her dissertation examined modern Greek and French adaptations (theatrical works and translations) of Sophocles’ tragedies Antigone, Oedipus Tyrannus, and Oedipus at Colonus. Since 2019, she has been conducting research in literary translation, with publications and conference presentations in the field.
