Grigoris Ioannidis is Professor in the Department of Theatre Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds a diploma from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens and a degree from the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Athens. He pursued postgraduate studies in Philosophy of Science (King’s College London) and in Theatre Studies. He holds a PhD from the Department of Theatre Studies, with a doctoral dissertation devoted to foreign repertoire and its contribution to the shaping of modern Greek theatre.

His research and teaching interests focus on modern and contemporary Greek dramaturgy, foreign repertoire, theatre criticism and creative writing, as well as the use of new technologies in theatre studies and theatrical research. He has collaborated at times as a consultant with all institutional theatre organisations in Greece and has taught in numerous theatre seminars, workshops, and scholarly meetings, as well as at the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece. At the same time, he has contributed to the curation and organisation of major exhibitions dedicated to theatre and its history.

He is the author of monographs on the Greek and foreign repertoire of Greek theatre and of numerous studies published in academic journals and collective volumes. He served as theatre critic for the magazines Anti and Eleftherotypia, while since 2011 he has maintained a theatre criticism column in Efimerida ton Syntakton.
