Marios Koukounaras-Liagkis is Associate Professor at the Department of Theology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Director of its Pedagogical Laboratory for Religious Education.

He also teaches at UCL Institute of Education, the Department of Primary Education and the Department of Theatre Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

His professional and academic activity brings together pedagogy, religious education, teacher education, theatre in education and experiential learning.

Professional Background
  • He taught in secondary education from 2003 to 2012.
  • From 1989 to 2007, he worked continuously in print and electronic media as a journalist and radio producer.
  • He served as an adviser to the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs from 2007 to 2009.
Theatre and Education
He has attended seminar programmes on Theatre and Drama in Education and has worked professionally with theatre-in-education programmes for secondary schools.

He also collaborates with public and private organisations as a producer of educational programmes.

His work focuses particularly on teacher education, mentoring and the continuous professional development of teachers.

He has extensive experience as a trainer in a wide range of teacher professional-development programmes organised by educational, university and ecclesiastical institutions.

Academic Activity
He has participated in international conferences in Greece and elsewhere in Europe and has published articles in academic journals and conference proceedings in Greece and abroad.

He has also published ten books on education.

Research and Educational Projects
He currently coordinates four projects funded by the Special Account for Research Funds of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and by Erasmus+ (KA2).
Learn Inn NKUA and E-learning
He is Academic and Scientific Coordinator of e-learning programmes offered by the Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning Centre of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens under the name Learn Inn NKUA, as well as of university programmes for schools.
