Greek and World Theatre: Drama, Performance, Education

HISTORY

he Postgraduate Programme (MA) of the Department of Theatre Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is one of the oldest and most dynamic institutions in the field of theatre studies in Greece.

Since its establishment in 1995, the programme has undergone multiple stages of restructuring, under titles such as:

  • “Greek Theatre from Antiquity to the Present”

  • “Theatre: Theory and Practice – History and the Present”

  • “World Theatre: Practice – Dramaturgy – Theory”

  • “From Text to Stage: Greek Theatre in Dialogue with the World”

With a rich curriculum, the participation of distinguished scholars and artists, and active engagement in international research networks, the programme has hosted:

  • Over 230 graduates

  • 37 doctoral dissertations

  • A wide range of seminars, lectures, conferences, and publications

The MA programme supports research activities, collaborates with Greek and international universities, and offers opportunities for doctoral and postdoctoral studies.
