FILIPPOGLOU KOSTAS

Kostas Filippoglou is an actor, director, and theatre teacher. He began his theatre studies in Athens and continued his training with actor-teachers from across Europe, researching physical and devised theatre.

In 1986, he began working in Greece as an actor and has participated in numerous productions. He has worked at Technχώρος Theatre under Yannis Kakleas, at Amore Theatre with Yannis Houvardas, at Porta Theatre, at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, the National Theatre of Greece, and many others.

Since 1999, he has worked primarily abroad with the theatre company Complicité, taking part in the company’s performances and workshops in England, Europe, and the United States. He has performed at the National Theatre in London, at Bouffes du Nord of Peter Brook, among others.

As a theatre teacher, he has taught in many European cities and in New York. In Greece, he taught as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Patras, in the postgraduate programme of Theatre Studies in Athens, in seminars he organizes himself, in drama schools, and in seminars on theatre in education.

In recent years, he founded his own school-workshop in Athens, where he teaches physical and devised theatre, and he is a permanent collaborator and instructor in the postgraduate programme of Theatre Studies in Athens.

He has directed the following productions:

  • In 2003, for the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kalamata, he directed Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, in his own adaptation.
  • In 2006, he directed Odyssebah by Xenia Kalogeropoulou for the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kozani.
  • In 2011–2012, he conceived and directed the performances Political Disobedience (collective creation) and Orestes – Electra 0-1, which were staged in Athens and Nicosia.
  • During the 2012–2013 season, he directed Paper Flowers by Egon Wolff at Ilisia Theatre, and Historia de un amor or the Ants by Thanasis Triaridis at Olvio Theatre.
  • During the 2013–2014 season, he directed Tirza by Arnon Grunberg at Ilisia Theatre, Mengele at Faust Theatre, and Philoctetes by Sophocles at Epidaurus.
  • During the 2014–2015 season, he directed The Seagull by Anton Chekhov at Thiseion Theatre and Exit (collective creation) at Bios.
  • In the summer of 2015, he again directed for Epidaurus and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus the play Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus.
  • During the 2016–2017 season, he adapted and directed Black Snow, based on the novel of the same name by Mikhail Bulgakov, for Porta Theatre.
  • During the 2017–2018 season, he directed No Man's Land by Harold Pinter at Thiseion Theatre and Miss Julie by August Strindberg for the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Agrinio.
  • In the summer of 2018, he directed The Frogs by Aristophanes for Epidaurus and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
  • In 2019, his productions of Miss Julie at Apo Michanis Theatre and The 7 Daughters of Eve at Mavromichali Studio were staged in Athens.
  • In 2020, he directed The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol at ALFA Theatre, a production that ended prematurely due to the pandemic.
  • In 2021–2022, he directed God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, translated by himself and Giota Seremeti, for Athina Theatre.
  • In 2023 and 2024, he directed Iliad for the Thessalian Theatre and Pothen Esches for Veaki Theatre.

From April to August 2024, he was in London, performing at the National Theatre in the play Mnemonic with the theatre company Complicité.

In 2025–2026, he continued performing in major theatres of Athens, including Veaki Theatre, Anesis Theatre, and the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus.

At present, he is acting in and directing You and Your Clouds by Eric Westphal at METS Theatre, while continuing his teaching at the Workshop of Physical and Devised Theatre, the Drama School of the National Theatre, and the postgraduate programme of Theatre Studies in Athens.
