Penny Fylaktaki was born in Thessaloniki. She is a playwright, screenwriter, translator and university lecturer.

She graduated with distinction from the Department of English Language and Literature at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, holds an MA in Translation from the University of Surrey and a PhD in Theatre Translation and Intercultural Studies from Aristotle University.

Playwriting

She has written 22 plays, which have been staged in Greece and abroad.

Most of her plays have been translated into English and Spanish.

Awards and Distinctions
  • 2004 — Greek State Playwriting Award of the Ministry of Culture.
  • 2017 — Award from the Greek Screenwriters Guild.
  • 2020 — Lucretia was nominated for Best Play.
  • 2022 — Award at the international Scriptation competition in Los Angeles.
International Presence
  • 2014 — Represented Greece at the Contemporary Dramaturgy Forum “Tribute to the Balkans” with her play The Building.
  • 2018 — Seaweed on the Seabed was staged in New York under the auspices of Greek Play Project New York, the Onassis Foundation, the Greek Ministry of Culture and the National Theatre of Greece.

Since 2001, she has taught in undergraduate and postgraduate university programmes.

  • 2021 — Screenwriter of the feature film Luger.
  • 2023 — Screenwriter of the drama series Psychokores, ANT1.
  • 2024 — Psychokores was nominated for Best Screenplay at the Seoul International Drama Awards.
  • 2024 — Co-screenwriter of the biographical series Maria: The Unknown Callas, ERTFLIX.
  • 2025 — Maria: The Unknown Callas was selected for Berlinale Series Market Selects.
  • Co-creator of the comedy series Hotel Elvira with Vangelis Nasis.
Novel
In 2022, Livanis Publications released her first novel:

a fictionalised biography.
